Ned Beatty: Guestbook

Ramsay Stewart

November 8, 2008

Hi Ned,
Great tunes, very enjoyable.
I've been re-watching early Homicide recently as well and I have to say I'd forgotten brilliant this series and especially your performance was. You seem to create a 'stillness' at the centre which allows the other characters to breathe.
After watching The Wire recently I have to say I suspected that Homicide might pale in comparison. It really doesn't - if anything it's better than The Wire.

Cheers,
Ramsay

Just a short note from Ireland where you came to film 'Hear My Song'. I saw the film in the cinema - yours was a great performance as Josef Locke. I hope you had a good time in Ireland making the film.
I wish you success and good health.

I was just watching an old episode of Roseanne and you were in it which led me to look you up and see if you were still around! That led me to your music and you have a beautiful voice. I was quite inspired by it. You should keep it up. If you are ever on the Outer Banks of North Carolina come and sing for us!!

Great website you have and photo's too. I"m a fan, and love your acting. I just recently saw the superman films, one of my favorite characters you played in the movies you been in was otis and 1941 when you yelled invasion. and trying to shoot at the japanese with the big gun. I was also an extra in the movie rudy back in the early nineties, and in some little scenes in the film. Me and my family know rudy ruetigger. During the making of rudy, they put me in a scene asking for tickets, and you walked by me and I asked you if you had tickets for the game something like that. Other than that I think your a great actor and enjoyed the films you've been in. Keep up the good work. Joe Roman.

Mr. Beatty,
Over 30 years ago you chaired a barbershop show in Georgia and afterwards you sang with the Fun Addicts Quartet in which I sang lead. You also played the guitar and sang. Hi Ned,
It has been a long time. I was the construction coordinator on "Shadows in the Storm". I stumbled onto your site and wanted to say hello. I still have a photo of you playing gut bucket bass with me at Pierpoint and am happy that you decided to build Fort Beatty in Camp Nelson. It is a place near and dear to my heart.
See what I am doing at www.tourtvonline.com CHEERS!

Dear Mr. Beatty,

I just wanted to thank you for your kindness at the recent Superman Festival. My 5 year old daughter talked about you the entire way home. I am not certain that you will remember us, but during one of the final sessions she spent some time playing peek-a-boo with you while you both discussed schooling and her age. You are truly one of the kindest men I have ever met. Thank you again and God Bless.

Top of the day, Ned! I've heard it rumored for years that you are a Barbershopper. Any truth? From listening to some of your music you gotta be a bass. Nice bright sound, good voice.
If you ever get to Sarasota Florida please let me know. I belong to the "Chorus of the Keys" and sing lead. I'd love to ring a few chords with you.
Our chapter is about 100 plus strong during seaon. We meet on Tuesday nights at 7 PM then go to afterglow and sing tags and other songs till about midnight.
Oh! by the way you may know the name Don Clause? He is our director along with Don Gipps. Great fun! Hope to hear from you if you come our way. Stay well and "COME ON DOWN"

Best regards,

Well buddy ole buddy.
I never knew you could sing. What a voice. It reminds me of a cross between Tennessee Ernie Ford and Jim Reeves. Smooth and Rich.

In the picture “Maddie’s First lesson” what kind of old guitar is that?

Nice family oriented web site.
Take care and may God bless and keep you and your family.

Mr. Beatty,

I just wanted to thank you for bringing me so much enjoyment through your characters. I am watching, "The Rockford Files," right now and am thoroughly enjoying your performance. I also liked you in M.A.S.H. as the Colonel Chaplain. Your best performance, however, I feel, was in "Silver Streak."

Thank-you so very much once again for sharing your self.

I am an actor/writer and I have always been a fan of your work. You remind me of my own father and I would hope that one day I may actually convince you to play him. Ironically I ran into Bruce D some months back and he mentioned that I reminded him of you. Crazy world. I hope we have an opportunity to connect at some point and until then keep singing, keep acting and know that there is a whole generation of performers that you have had a tremendous impact on.
Love Always, John

Mr. Beatty,
I think you're a wonderful actor. I always am happy when I see you credited in a movie, or a television program, because I know there is going to a standard of fine acting quality in what I am about to see. I just wanted to thank you for entertaining me as a child when you took part in Shelley Duvall's FAERIE TALE THEATRE. Nobody could play a wealth obsessed monarch like you, and I am glad you were part of the vast talent that went into that anthology. NASHVILLE was great too, and of course SUPERMAN and the LAST DAYS OF POMPEI! Long may entertain us!Regards,
Erik

Hi Ned. I am the Manager of the Kittson County Soil and Water Conservation District in Hallock. We have an annual convention coming up in Bloomington and I would like to bring your CD to the auction held to raise money for conservation. I was wondering if you would be willing to sign the CD? Sorry to contact you this way. I couldn't figure out another way to reach you. I think the rest of the State will be impressed to see that you call Kittson County home. Thanks. Just wondered where you went to high school. From what I have read, it was probably Eastern HS. I predate you by a couple of years; graduated from Male High and also sang a lot; in the school choir and also a barbershop quartet. Glad you made it good.

Hi Ned, I've always greatly enjoyed your acting and I was so happy to find that even you have made a home for yourself online, and I was quite blown away with your singing. Your voice is blessed, can't wait to get myself a copy of your new CD. From a fan in NORWAY.

Hi Ned, We just received 8 copies of your wonderful CD--Christmas gifts for son Ned (your namesake) & family, and Ken, etc. After hearing it, we plan to buy more for your Savannah fans. The songs obviously come straight from your heart to the hearts of your listeners. No put-on; the real McCoy. We love it. Maurice sends special greetings and love, and I hope to meet you someday. I have always been a huge fan--even before I knew Maurice and MM.

Mr. Beatty,
Just wanted to tell you what a nice family you have. You ate at the restuarant I manage and our staff sang "Happy Birthday" to a young lady in your party. You were so kind to give our hostess (Wilma) your autograph. This truely made her day as the week before she had a biopsy to see if she has cancer. Her spirit was lifted and she was so excited to meet you! Again, thanks for your kindness.

Greetings from Minneapolis (the Hallock native). Our regular stop at the Dakota Jazz Club turned into a much "less regular evening". Enjoyed the music, was delighted by your company and we are still humored by the "small world" of the
Northern girls. It was a PLEASURE and we hope our paths cross again in Mpls or on the golf course in Karlstad. Thanks for the info on Ned sings. . . just placed an order and am thinking that Christmas stockings may be indicating placing another order. :) Keep smiling. . . from Pat & Becky.

Dear Mr. Beatty

You probably don't remember this but years ago I had flown into Miami (I'm an airline pilot) and
I went to the little grocery just up from the hotel we always stayed at. This was in the late
1980's. You were there and we started chatting outside the store. You told me you were from
Louisville and I told you I was from Lexington. We chatted for 15 minutes or so and I went to
the hotel, you went to the place (Big Daddy's?) beside the grocery. Then the next morning I was
in the lobby with my crew checking out and you were going to play tennis. I think you were
doing something with Hal Holbrook if I am not mistaken.

Anyway, something funny happened that morning that I want to share with you if by chance you
remember that meeting.

If so, please have someone reply to the e-mail I gave and I will tell the quick story and send it.

Either way, good luck and continued success.

Rick from Lexington

Mr. Beaty,
I have enjoyed your work for such a long time. I was just reminded of it as I watched a wonderful episode of ROSEANNE this morning. Also, you were brilliant recently in THE WOOL CAP. You gave such depth and nuances to a small role. And, of course, NETWORK. One of the sadnesses of my career was that we were never able to interview you for our special on Robert Altman while I was at Fox Movie Channel. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much you have touched me in your many portrayals over the years.
